Who is Sa Sa?

Sarah Johnston is the principal and founder of Sa Sa llc. Sarah was born in Charleston, West Virginia and raised in both Rockville and Columbia, Maryland. A graduate of the esteemed Notre Dame Preparatory, Sarah went onto the Savannah College of Art and Design to procure a Bachelors of Art in Metals and Jewelry. During her four years in Savannah Sarah got very involved in fashion and began to explore methods that would incorporate her fashion sense into modern jewelry making techniques. After graduation Sarah returned to Maryland and started Ugz, a line of custom silver jewelry that developed a large regional following and caught the eye of a local entrepreneur.

Lund Trading was, at the time, a start up with no employees and lobbied Sarah to take over the sales arm of the company. As sales manager Sarah oversaw the sales and marketing of Trollbeads for the United States market. In the four years that Sarah was in charge of sales, Lund Trading went from a small company with a product unknown to the U.S. market, to a business with sales of over $40 million annually and a bead line that became a national craze.

In May of 2008, on the heels of another successful quarter with Trollbeads, Sarah left to start a new adventure. With the help of her husband Jeb and boxer Hayden, Sarah founded Sa Sa in June 2008.

How did Sa Sa begin?

Founded in June of 2008 Sa Sa is the brainchild of designer Sarah Johnston. Sarah started with credit card advances and built a small jewelry studio in her spare bedroom. Sa Sa developed a cult following in the Baltimore-DC corridor and demand quickly forced Sarah to expand her operation to a full storefornt and studio in historic Ellicott City, Maryland. Thanks to a loyal and dedicated fan base Sa Sa is now a nationally distributed brand.
